The first two years of professional practice establish the foundation of clinical skills you will need for the length of your career. As a Magnet-designated facility, we are committed to your professional development and will invest in your clinical practice throughout your tenure. Our RN New Graduate Programs provide generous, protected orientation time: three months for nurses entering acute care settings and five months for nurses beginning in critical care units. Experienced Preceptors and Nursing Education Coordinators tailor the program to meet your individual needs. In addition, regular meetings with other new graduate nurses allow you to learn and develop together. Throughout your first year of practice, monthly classes supplement your clinical orientation. These classes provide didactic, evidence-based content essential to developing clinicians, as well as peer discussion about transition-to-practice issues. As you begin your nursing career, UVA will provide an exciting and supportive environment in which to meet the challenges of nursing.
